zkSync Era Outperforms in 2024: 1.5M Daily Transactions, Airdrop Speculated
Ethereum Scaling Solution zkSync Era Launches Successfully into 2024
The scaling solution for Ethereum, zkSync Era, has started the year 2024 with impressive numbers. Over the past 30 days, it has recorded more transactions than any other Layer-2 network (L2).
zkSync Era leads the field
The Zero-Knowledge Rollup solution (zk-Rollup) recorded over 1.5 million daily transactions in the last 24 hours, according to a post by Ethereum Daily. Traditional heavyweights like Arbitrum and Optimism took second and fourth place respectively. A closer examination by AMBCrypto revealed a month of dominance for the L2 network. According to data from L2Beat, over 40 million cumulative transactions were processed on zkSync Era over the past 30 days, more than any other Ethereum L2 solution.
High throughput and active users
zkSync Era provided a high average throughput of 16.11 transactions per second (TPS) over the past 24 hours. In fact, zkSync Era was the only L2 network that consistently recorded double-digit TPS over the past month. It reached a peak of 62.07 TPS, averaged over a single day on December 16.
Moreover, zkSync Era also dominated other aspects of network activity. It recorded the most daily active users over the past two months, according to an analysis of Artemis data by AMBCrypto. The number of unique active addresses on January 6 was 399.89K, more than the combined total of the next four on the list.
zkSync Era lags in TVL
Despite strong performance in network fundamentals, zkSync Era has struggled to attract decentralized applications (dApps) and associated liquidity. The total value locked (TVL) on the rollup was only $541 million at the time of publication, significantly less than Arbitrum, OP Mainnet, and even Base.
Will there be an airdrop in 2024?
Strong network activity almost always leads to speculation about a potential airdrop. This is despite the fact that zkSync has not made any official announcements or even hinted at such a scenario. Airdrops are a contentious issue in the cryptocurrency community. While some view them as marketing gimmicks, proponents believe they can have a strong impact on user engagement and the overall success of the project.
