Best roulette strategies are supposed to help you win as often or as high as possible. However, since it is demonstrably a game of chance, the question is: Do roulette systems have any effect at all? Our clear answer: Yes! However, every strategy in roulette has its pitfalls. Therefore, we will take a look at the most well-known and interesting tactics, which have lasted for years in the game with kettle and ball. First of all, we will summarize some interesting facts about roulette concepts.

The most important things in a nutshell:
- An online roulette strategy that promises 100% success does not exist. For this, the factor of chance is too great in this game of chance.
- However, it looks different at a land-based casino. There, players with a trained eye can possibly determine the trajectory of the ball and thus increase their success.
- Also the Internet roulette allows diverse strategies. Thus, the customer gets in any case a certain influence on the gaming experience.

Roulette Strategies
French or European roulette has 37 numbers. Below this is a green zero. In American roulette, there are 38 digits, including the green zero and the double zero. Otherwise, it is a numbers game of chance. As players, we cannot influence where the ball stops at the end of the round. Why there are nevertheless strategies in roulette, we want to explain.
Before we explain the tactics one by one, let's introduce the different categories:
- Physical: Welcome to the land-based casino. Yes, there are roulette strategies for which the player must be directly live. These cannot be implemented in any Internet gambling house. From our perspective, this applies to the physical strategies more or less consistently.
- Progressive: This designation is aimed at a constantly expanding use. In fact, very many roulette strategies rely on this factor.
- Non-progressive: Conversely to the progressive roulette strategies, the bet here does not continue to grow with each loss.
Physical roulette strategies
The better the customer sees the kettle, ball and croupier, the more likely these strategies will lead to success when playing roulette. As the name implies, physics (the study of nature) has meaning here. This can be the speed of the ball, its behavior in the vessel or gravity.
A plus point in land-based casinos is that the bet can still be placed after the ball has already been put into play.
Boiler error in land based casinos
Boiler errors are mostly accompanied by a distorted roulette wheel. Assume that the boiler is warped. Then the ball lands more on the favored side of the boiler. The house edge in roulette is small. And with this bias, the advantage jumps to the casino player. However, it must be recognized in advance that there is a boiler fault. Of course, these are wheels that are unintentionally unbalanced. The casino operators must not know about it. Otherwise, the roulette table would be closed until the wheel is replaced. Players who take advantage of a boiler error could have their winnings revoked – but probably only if the operator notices the error while the player is still active.

What initially sounds like a grandiose plan, however, has its weak points. Nevertheless, progressive tactics are of interest when playing roulette. Especially in the short term, they can provide success.
A lot of tactics is usually not necessary here. The player just needs to understand in what frame he raises his bet.
Martingale system
This strategy, which was already used for the Pharo, has been known since the 18th century. Meanwhile, it is common in roulette. Martingale is a term that comes from probability theory. It describes a stochastic process that is fair on average. Which brings us to the system. The concept is based on the fact that we win as often as we lose. By controlling the variable that is incumbent upon us, the stake, we can reap long-term profits. If we bet one euro and lose, it will double. If we still lose at two euros, we double. With a bet of four euros we win and doubled. We turn four euros directly into eight euros. However, we had previously used only seven euros. This is the basic martingale strategy. Because this roulette variant now has different gradations.
Implementation of the Martingale system

Since this strategy comes along at the roulette table with only a very small risk, actually everyone can try out the Paroli system. Most of the time, gaming sessions end with small wins or losses. Parlay
Parlay may be familiar to some readers from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies. “If an adversary wishes to negotiate, he must not be harmed,” it says. But this expression is not only common among pirates. In the casino, however, parlay has a different meaning. Because there is talk about a combination bet. However, since we double stakes only in case of a win, we can speak of a low risk factor.
James Bond
“Shaken, not stirred.” James Bond has an affinity for casinos. But what is the James Bond roulette strategy all about? Actually, 007 is more of a baccarat player. From time to time, however, he was also drawn to the roulette table. There Bond taps on various series. For example, the outside bet 19-36. There he places 14 bets. From a purely logical point of view, the James Bond system is only good for losses in the long term. But in the short term, it can be used to make profits. In principle, this requires one of seven numbers – either the green zero or the range from 13 to 18. We can advise to try the strategy once. However, stakes must be placed on various positions here. Therefore, this tactic is suitable for players who enter the casino with a certain financial cushion.
D'Alembert
Is d'Alembert the safe Martingale strategy? At least this variant goes back to the mathematician Jean le Rond d'Alembert. With this variant, he pursued a system based on negative progression. Similar to Martingale, we then increase our bets when we lose. But the progression here is not for doubling. While we would have to increase from 10 to 20, from 20 to 40, and from 40 to 80 euros for Martingale, the situation is different for d'Alembert. Here, the stake is increased or decreased by a fixed factor. Assuming the player starts with five euros and wins, he already reduces to four euros. If he loses two times in a row, then he increases again first to five and then to six euros. This flat progression lowers the risk of hitting the casino's betting limit.
Implementation of the d'Alembert system
- Choose a start insert that has room to move up and down.

Evaluation d'Alembert system
Within the evaluation, we must mention that d'Alembert was mistaken. At the time, the mathematician assumed that if a coin landed on its head twice, the number would be more likely to appear on the next try. In the long term, heads and tails will equalize. But statistically, every roll has a 50 percent chance of coming up heads or tails. However, since the risk of use is very low, we don't really want to turn anyone away from the d'Alembert system.
Labouchère
The starting point is the definition of the desired profit. Let's assume 60 euros. Now the player has to divide this amount into several parts – for example like this: 5, 10, 10, 5, 10, 10, 5 and 5. Now the player adds the first and last number of this row and thus gets his bet – ten euros. If the first round is immediately crowned with a success, i.e. the doubling occurs, the outer numbers of the row are crossed off. Subsequently, the player again adds the remaining numbers from the outer sides as a stake. In our case, it would now be 15 euros. However, if the player loses, a new number is added to the end of the row – the lost bet. This then also changes the stake in the following round. The invention of this system goes back to the experienced player Henry Labouchère.
Implementation of the Labouchère system

The Labouchère system is a roulette strategy with a slightly more complex concept. We like this very much because it forces the player to think. It is not possible to simply whiz through the rounds. This makes people much more aware of gambling. Here, too, success or failure depends to a large extent on the luck factor. But the casino customer motivates himself by following a big plan, which he divides into small goals. Conclusion: Concept with brains!
Fibonacci
Who was Fibonacci? His civil name was Leonardo da Pisa. He was an arithmetic master and developed the number sequence in which the two numbers in front are always added together to form the next number. Here is the sequence of numbers on which the roulette strategy is also based: 1 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 5 – 8 – 13 – 21 – 34 – 55 – 89 – 144 – etc. For example, the two and three here add up to the following number five. The numbers from the sequence serve as units in the roulette strategy. For example, you can start with one euro. In the event of a loss, one euro must be wagered again. With further losses, it would then be two, three and five euros. The progression upwards is narrower than with other tactics. Therefore, it also takes a little longer to make up for losses suffered with subsequent gains.
Implementation of the Fibonacci system
- Place a unit on a simple roulette bet (double down).
- In case of loss, place the same bet again.
- After the second loss in a row, the last two bets are always added together.
- In case of a win, the Fibonacci sequence starts all over again in relation to the stake.

The smaller the stakes, the less risky the Fibonacci system is. Therefore, we can recommend it to anyone who is interested. The player influences the game with his betting variant. Nevertheless, roulette remains a game of chance. Unfortunately, the Fibonacci sequence does not influence the actual chance of winning positively, but not negatively either. Therefore, it is more of a strategy to keep the stakes in mind. But even here, there comes a point where costs reach a high level during a losing streak.
Montante Hollande
This variant is often better known as Montante Hollandaise. This is a system in which negative progression is applied. In this respect, the concept is similar to the Martingale or Labouchere. Likewise, the betting on Hallandaise focuses on the easy chances. In addition, this principle is less aggressive. Lost bets are noted in a list from left to right. If the customer subsequently shows profits again, he starts crossing off the numbers on his list from the left. We lost again, adds a number to the right. If all digits are crossed out, the losses have been made up (possibly even overtaken). If there is a win over and above this, or if it is won in advance of writing, the customer walks away from the roulette table with a win.
There are no specific requirements for use here. Nevertheless, the progression should slowly increase upwards. For example, it is common to jump directly from one to two units (in case of loss) and to pause at each unit for three turns from then on.
Implementation of the Montante Hollande system
- Player decides on a basic bet.
- In case of loss, the lost bet must be noted in a row.
- In the event of a win, the number at the front of the list on the left is crossed off.
- If all digits are crossed off, at least no loss has been made.
- The deployment progression could look like this: 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, etc.

Valuation Montante Hollande System
The roulette system Montante Hollande is not very spectacular. It is at the same time little restrictive. This is because the player is not given a default when betting. The units are usually staggered. To be sure, there is progression. However, this is flat. This makes it more difficult to recoup losses incurred with subsequent gains. It usually takes several successes in a row to make up for a run of bad luck. In the positive, as well as in the negative, from our point of view, it is a variant of small gains or losses.
Whittacker Progression
Similarities with the Labouchere or Fibonacci system are present. The spelling varies between Whittacker and Whittaker variant depending on the source. The betting variant is applied to the typical 50:50 odds in roulette. However, although doubling the bet is possible, it is not really a 50% chance. The green zero ensures this. Here, too, customers play with a negative progression. As with Fibonacci, the last two bets selected are added together, in the event of a loss, to determine the next bet. This concept continues until the winning case occurs. In principle, the differences to the Fibonacci system are marginal. However, the player is not bound to the famous consequence of the mathematician – although in terms of units it is true. He can start his operation at any point and set the increase from there. However, too large sums are not advisable, since the total stake can increase rapidly due to the progression.
Implementation of the Whittacker System
- The roulette player sets a basic bet for himself.
- In case of loss, a second bet amount is selected.
- Each subsequent loss results in a bet that adds the last two losses.
- In case of a win, the player starts over with his original bet.

Evaluation Whittacker System
Among the roulette strategies we put to the test, this one seems the most redundant. From our point of view, the Whittacker Progression is at best a rip-off of the Fibonacci sequence in the casino. By this we do not mean that this system is worse. However, it is not better either. Once again, players are welcome to try out the concept with small stakes. Usually, this results in small wins or losses at the end of a gaming session. However, depending on the starting point at deployment, the sums can add up.
Goldstein Progression
Max Paufler is said to have invented the Goldstein Progression in 1985. The concept is based on the fact that three losses are to be erased by each of the rate increases. Or, in other words, the stakes increase to such an extent that just one win offsets three losses. If we always bet on red, then with three times black and once red we would have arrived exactly at plus minus zero in terms of the account balance. While a typical progression ends with 344 units in the red, the Goldstein method ends with only 78 units. The game is not played on simple chances as in other progression variants. Because the basic idea was to use on a dozen. In doing so, players automatically use the 1/3 chance to increase the bet to three times. When losses are wiped out with this method, the game starts all over again with the original stake.
Implementation of the Goldstein system
- Units are set as follows: 1 – 1 – 1 – 2 – 2 – 3 – etc.
- Thus, a profit always absorbs the previous losses.
- However, this applies only if the bet is placed on a dozen (e.g. 1 – 12).
- In the event of a win, the series starts again from the beginning.

- A single gain always absorbs the three previous losses; by progression all losses
- At the same time, the risk is greater: because the number from a dozen comes with a lower probability than a simple chance

Rating Goldstein System
Goldstein Progression is unjustly less known than some other strategies. In our view, it combines the advantages of various progression models without exaggerating the disadvantages. Because the progression continues in small steps. On the other hand, the chance of a hit is also lower. Nevertheless, the player holds this tactic longer. Everyone who is interested in this roulette strategy should try it out as a dry run – without real money.
Fitzroy system
The Fitzroy system is based on the idea of Martingale. However, unlike the most famous progressive variant, the bet here always increases by exactly one unit. Thus, the progression is flatter than in the Martingale system, where doubling takes place. However, the progression is still steep enough to bring in decent profits. However, there is a second Fitzroy variant. In this case, the player immediately increases the bet to three times after his first loss. So one unit becomes three units. However, if then continues to lose, again only one unit is added at a time. The ulterior motive: to finish with a hefty profit even in the second attempt, thus winning the game round of the roulette strategy and starting all over again afterwards. Because this idea appeals to us, we highlight the slightly modified version of the Fitzroy strategy below.
Implementation of the Fitzroy system
- Set a unit to a simple chance (e.g. even/odd).
- Raise directly to three units on loss.
- In the event of a further loss, the customer increases the stake by one unit.
- In case of a win, there should always be a positive balance; in this case, the progressive variant starts all over again.

- Due to the early tripling, there are two chances for an initial profit at the start

Rating Fitzroy System
Our evaluation of the Fitzroy system is positive. Of course, there is some risk involved in a losing streak. In this respect, the tactic does not differ from other progressive roulette strategies. On the other hand, we have a chance to finish with a whopping profit on the first two attempts. After that, a reduced betting progression takes effect, reducing the risk of quick losses in case of a negative run. Personally, we like the ratio between the chance of winning and the risk ratio just very much.
Non-Progressive Roulette Strategies
In distinction to the previous section and the tactics presented there, which are based on a progressive increase of the bet, at this point we present the other roulette strategies. Consequently, these are variants that on the one hand are also possible in the online casino, but on the other hand do not use increasing stakes as a basis for consideration.
We have found the following strategies on a non-progressive basis in roulette.
Bet on numbers
Betting on numbers is supposed to be a roulette strategy? If you always take the same number or simply change the digit, you are obviously not using a strategy. However, a certain combination of digits can be used. Mentally, we like the variant of a sequence of twelve, paired with one or two single numbers. The twelve successes covers just under a third of the playing field and grant us three times the bet if we win. If, on the other hand, the ball hits the pocket of a single number we have chosen, we will be paid the stake multiplied by a factor of 35. So we have about a one-third chance of getting our bet back, and with two single numbers we have a chance to clean up correctly. On each row of six, as well as on each digit, the player now places a chip. By the way, the fixed numbers are only a suggestion. It is not mandatory to cover every fourth digit. In theory, it is quite enough to bet on ten arbitrary numbers.
