Coinbase Holds 11.4% of Ethereum Staking Market

Key Takeaways

In February 2025, Coinbase controlled an 11.4% market share in Ethereum staking. The company operated 120,000 validator nodes and had a total of 3.84 million ETH staked. Despite the growing interest in Ethereum staking, the ETH price lagged behind other cryptocurrencies.

Coinbase as a Leading Validator

According to a transparency report from Coinbase, the platform operated 120,000 validator nodes in February. These were distributed across various countries, including Japan, Ireland, Singapore, Germany, and Hong Kong. In total, Coinbase had 3.84 million ETH staked, representing 11.4% of the overall Ethereum staking market.

Ethereum expert Sassal emphasized that Coinbase was the largest single node operator in the network. While Lido was a larger staking service, it consisted of multiple smaller node operators.

Comparison with Other Staking Providers

Market data from Dune Analytics differed from the figures in the Coinbase report. Dune estimated Coinbase’s market share at only 8%, with 2.7 million ETH staked.

Lido remained the leading staking provider with 9.3 million ETH staked. In total, 34.1 million ETH were staked, accounting for 27.7% of the total Ethereum supply.

Ethereum Staking Rebounds

After a decline in January 2025, Ethereum staking increased again in February. Over the past two weeks, 54,000 ETH flowed into the staking system, strengthening confidence in the cryptocurrency despite a general price decline.

According to Staking Rewards, the annual yield for ETH stakers is 3%, making staking particularly attractive for long-term investors.

ETH Price Falls Short of Expectations

Despite the increased interest in staking, the ETH price performed weaker than other cryptocurrencies. At the time of analysis, the price stood at around $2,000, representing a 54% decline from recent highs.

Our Assessment

Coinbase is solidifying its position as one of the leading Ethereum staking providers. The increasing amount of staked ETH reflects growing investor confidence in the network. However, it remains to be seen how the ETH price will develop in the coming months.
