SHIB Sees Surge in Long-Term Holding and Confidence

The Essentials at a Glance

Shiba Inu (SHIB) is undergoing a fundamental shift in its ownership structure. Over 80% of the total token supply is now in the hands of long-term investors — meaning holders who have kept their coins for at least one year. At the same time, exchange reserves are declining significantly. These developments suggest growing investor confidence and could influence long-term price stability.

Long-Term Investors Take the Helm

In the first quarter of 2025, the share of long-term holders of Shiba Inu increased by 7.5%. According to data from IntoTheBlock, their holdings grew from 732 trillion to 787 trillion SHIB. These investors hold their tokens for more than twelve months. In contrast, mid-term investors reduced their positions by 18%, while short-term traders cut their holdings by as much as 43%. This indicates a clear trend away from short-term speculation toward long-term holding.

Declining Exchange Reserves Indicate Lower Selling Pressure

This shift is supported by data from CryptoQuant: SHIB reserves on centralized crypto exchanges fell by 37.6% over the same period — from 139.7 trillion to 87.2 trillion tokens. Such a decline means fewer coins are available for sale. This is generally seen as a bullish signal, as it indicates reduced selling pressure. However, SHIB’s price still dropped during the quarter, suggesting other market forces or a lack of demand may be at play.

Whales Show Mixed Behaviour

The activity of large wallets, or so-called “whales,” paints a mixed picture. In early January, over 33 trillion SHIB were transferred to exchanges — a possible sign of selling intentions. However, this trend reversed in the weeks that followed: net inflows from large holders dropped by over 212%. Despite these fluctuations, SHIB’s price remained relatively stable. This could indicate that large investors no longer have the same level of influence on the market as before.

Strategic Sales Despite Falling Liquidity

Two notable events show how large movements can impact price: on January 7 and March 2, more than 32 trillion SHIB were transferred to exchanges in each instance. Both times, the price dropped afterward. Nevertheless, overall exchange reserves continued to decline. This suggests that other investors — likely long-term holders — are withdrawing their tokens from exchanges and holding rather than selling.

Market Shows Signs of Maturity

The data points to a structural change in the SHIB market. The increase in long-term holders, declining exchange reserves, and stable prices despite high trading volume all indicate a maturing project. Speculative behaviour is decreasing, while accumulation is on the rise. In the long run, this could lead to lower volatility and more stable prices.

Our Assessment

The developments in Shiba Inu show that the market is increasingly shaped by investors with a long-term outlook. The declining exchange reserves and growing number of long-term holders reflect strengthened confidence in the project. Short-term price fluctuations remain possible, but the foundation appears to be solidifying. Anyone invested in SHIB or considering an entry should keep an eye on these structural changes — they could lead to greater stability in the medium term.
